SHILLONG: The ANVC-B has demanded official ‘Suspension Of Operations’ against its cadres on the basis of the peace pact between the outfit and the State Government.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma on Sunday, Jakrik Wareng A Sangma, general secretary of ANVC-B, said that despite taking part in the peace pact, no official proceedings have been undertaken for suspension of operations and support or assistance for the cadres, unlike the treatment meted out to the ANVC.

Reacting to reports that they were staying away from the propose peace settlement, the ANVC-B leader stated that the reports were absurd and totally false, as it is the Government which has turned a blind eye to them even though they have been patiently waiting for positive developments for the last nine months.

“We have moved forward from the day we signed the peace pact on January 5 this year despite continuous operations by Meghalaya Police which has been hunting us continuously resulting in the death of many of our cadres, not to mention continuous provocation and arrests,” the ANVC-B leader said.

According to the militant leader, immediately after signing the peace pact, they became preoccupied with building their camps near Tura and since then, they had been calling up concerned officers for official proceedings on suspension of operations, but to no avail.

“We even invited Home Minister Roshan Warjri when she visited Tura. She met ANVC leaders but avoided meeting us. Is it that Government does not acknowledge us officially or are we being cheated in the name of some peace agreement?” the ANVC-B leader questioned.
