SHILLONG: A city patrol team apprehended one Bitlut Nongsteng of Lumshyiap for burning a JCB (ML 10 8319) and a truck (ML-05K-2745) at the parking lot of SREI Equipments Finance Pvt. Ltd located at Laitkor Mawarliang near Tata Motors here on Sunday evening.

After investigation, it was ascertained that the JCB belonged to Nongsteng and was financed by SREI Equipments Finance Pvt. Ltd. The JCB was, however, taken away as Nongsteng was not able to clear the loan.

Taking advantage of the current situation prevailing in the city, Nongsteng planned the arson but the former was caught red-handed while trying to set the JCB and the truck on fire at around 9 pm on Sunday.

“Police is taking serious action against individuals who take advantage of the fluid situation for their personal gains,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said.

Nongsteng has been remanded in 7-day police custody.
