SHILLONG: The India Pharmacists Revolution Yatra (Kashmir to kanyakumari) which was launched on January 4 starting from Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and continued to other parts of the country has now reached Meghalaya.
This yatra organised by Udyog Development Production, New Delhi was launched with an aim to create awareness among the common man and policy makers about the role of pharmacist and to strengthen the unity among the pharma professionals.
In line with the needs of the State, this yatra will focus on modernization of drug testing lab in the state considering the disturbing trend in the state in relation on the distribution of life saving drugs, a spurious and substandard drug which affects common man life.
According to member of Meghalaya Pharmacy Council Iuklit Uriah, the State government can write to the central health ministry and drug control general of India for fund allocations to establish drug testing lab and creation of new government analysts post as soon as possible.
He also stressed on the need to establish Pharmacy College (diploma/degree) in the state while stating “Pharmacist is a key player of life saving drugs,” adding that there is a need to open the Pharmacists Licenses Drug Store according to the Pharmacy Act and Drug and Cosmetic Act.
Uriah also concentrated on the need to establish food and drug administration for single regulatory authority for food and drug and also impressed upon the need to strictly implement the pharmacy act.
