Explosives seized, 3 held

JOWAI: East Jaintia Hills Police on Thursday seized a huge quantity of explosives from two women at Ladrymbai. The seized explosives include 400 gelatin sticks, 39 coils fuse wire and 48 boxes containing 100 detonators each.

Two women — Lucy Pamai (50) and Wangdi Pamai (40) — have been arrested in this connection.

During interrogation, the arrested women revealed that the explosives were meant to be transported to Dimapur from Pyrdung of Jalaphet village in East Jaintia Hills. They also claimed that the explosive materials were meant to be used in road construction work in Dimapur, police said.

Acting on a tip off Ladrymbai Police intercepted a vehicle (ML04B-4487) in which they were traveling, police said adding that explosive materials were recovered from the vehicle.

After a preliminary investigation, police arrested another person identified as Pranai Kr Purkayastha, a coalmine supervisor, from Pyrdung, Jalaphet village.
