CLP meet on ILP today

SHILLONG: With the State Government reiterating to execute legislative measures other than ILP to check influx of illegal migrants, 29 Congress legislators during the CLP meeting on Friday will have no other choice but to support Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

Dr Sangma is the leader of the CLP.

None of the Congress legislators have spoken in favour of ILP though some of them were part of the High Level Committee on influx which had recommended implementation of ILP in Meghalaya.

The Congress legislators, who had attended the meeting of the MUA-II coalition Government on September 18, had rallied behind the Chief Minister in rejecting the demand of the pressure groups, which have been demanding immediate implementation of ILP.

According to Congress sources, the AICC has left it to the Chief Minister to tackle the current impasse over ILP.

The Chief Minister has already appraised the Centre that the State Government would tackle the law and order situation arising out of the demand for ILP with a firm hand during the recent meeting of the National Integration Council (NIC) in New Delhi.
