State Govt to restructure power distribution

SHILLONG: Aiming to improve power distribution in Meghalaya, the State Cabinet on Friday decided to restructure the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation which has been incurring loss of Rs 441 crore which includes bank loans worth Rs 270 crore and dues amounting to Rs 171 crore for power purchases.

The State Government would seek approval of the Central Government before restructuring the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation.

The Cabinet also examined the issue of adopting various measures to avail support from the Centre to restructure power distribution in the State, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

The Cabinet has also decided to create 63 posts in the Fisheries department to strengthen its functioning.

In other developments, the State Cabinet has decided to impose 20 per cent entertainment tax on cinema halls in the State.
