JOWAI: In an unfortunate road mishap, a minor girl, Sweety Dorjee (5) was crushed to death while her elder sister Rica Dorjee (7) suffered critical injuries after they were run over by a coal-laden truck at Ladthadlaboh Dai-Masi, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills District on Friday.
Eye witnesses informed that the driver, who was allegedly intoxicated, was driving his truck (ML04 B 2129) in a reckless manner leading to the mishap. Besides running over the minor girls, the truck also dashed against a paan shop situated along the road.
The driver of the truck, who is yet to be identified, made good his escape immediately after the accident. Sweety Dorjee died on the spot while her elder sister Rica dorjee is fighting for her life at Woodland Hospital in Shillong after she was referred there from the KJPA Hospital, Jowai.
