Teachers’ job scam: Only deserving candidates to be appointed
SHILLONG: The State Government is contemplating to appoint only the deserving candidates in place of the ‘tainted’ ones after the High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC), which probed alleged tampering of marks of the job aspirants, segregated the tainted candidates from the deserving ones.
Indicating this, an official source on Saturday said the whole exercise to appoint eligible assistant teachers in the Government-run lower primary schools would be carried out on the basis of the report submitted by the probe panel.
It was the CBI which had first unearthed large scale manipulation of marks of several candidates to facilitate the appointment of ‘undeserving’ candidates due to the interference of higher ups.
At least 375 undeserving candidates were appointed in Shillong, Jowai, Amlarem, Tura and Dadenggiri by means of manipulation of the score sheet in the personal interview.
Marks regarding experience, education qualification among others of some undeserving candidates were manipulated so as to give them advantage over genuine aspirants.
On July 29, the HLSC had submitted the report to the Principal Secretary Education, but it took almost two months for the Government to examine the report.
The Chief Secretary WMS Pariat recently told reporters that the Government was still examining as to what action should be taken following the submission of the report of HLSC.
However, the Chief Secretary did not divulge the content of the report and its recommendations.
The task of the HLSC was to scrutinize and review the records regarding the candidature of the selected and unselected candidates in order to ascertain the legality of such selection or non-selection, as the case may be, and thereafter segregating the tainted candidates from the non-tainted ones. The HLSC had also been asked to take necessary action to offer and confirm appointments of duly selected candidates whether already appointed or not and terminate the candidature/appointment of the ineligible candidates and appoint the eligible candidates including the writ petitioner, if found suitable.
One of the terms of reference of the Committee was to ascertain “if any officer or authority has indulged in deliberate complicity of the matter of vitiating or otherwise interfering with the selection process”.
It was learnt that the HLSC complied with the terms of reference and suggested the appointment of eligible candidates.
