SHILLONG: Nongthymmai Legislator and UDP Leader, Jemino Mawthoh has slammed the Chief Minister for his rhetorical statement implying the issue of ILP as a political conspiracy while terming his statement as a ‘baseless comment which lacks an element of truth in it’.

“Perhaps, the political conspiracy that Mukul is referring to is within the Congress party itself,” Mawthoh said adding that the present handling of the situation by Dr Mukul Sangma is a reflection of his political immaturity and arrogance.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mawthoh said that for more than three decades, social organizations have been pressing the Government to come out with an effective mechanism to deal with the issue of influx. “Therefore, to say that the agitation is instigated by the opposition parties is just to save face and to pass the buck to others,” Mawthoh remarked.

Referring to the report submitted by the Raghuram Rajan Committee recently labeling Meghalaya as the least developed state in the country, the UDP legislator said that the Raghuram ending special category status to Meghalaya has blown the lid of the present government.

Paradoxically, from time to time, Dr Sangma led government has made false claim that Meghalaya is among the fastest growing states in the country and is projected as taking giant strides in development whereas the Raghuram Report says otherwise, Mawthoh asserted.

“The rosy picture painted by the government is a bluff and misleading to the people of the state and the people of Meghalaya have been taken for granted,” Mawthoh said while questioning the development initiatives of the chief minister including nine missions launched in the state in as far as implementation is concerned.

Meanwhile, discontented with the outcome of the CLP meeting held recently, Mawthoh said that the decision of the CLP to support Mukul Sangma is a clear indication that they are more concern of saving Mukul Sangma rather than saving the state.

“What is required at the present juncture is a dialogue between all the conflicting groups and the government to come out from this impasse,” Mawthoh suggested.
