SHILLONG: In its endeavour to serve the needy, Our Lady of the Missions Association (OLMA), which is one of the voluntary non-governmental organizations of RNDM Sisters of St. Mary’s, Shillong, recently stretched out its helping hand to the educational and social needs of Mawïawet village and its periphery in West Khasi Hills.

The VNGO has begun its social services at Mawïawet by contributing to the salary of Upper Primary school teachers of Mawlumïang, a locality of the village, as the local Managing Committee could no longer afford it. To further take forward its varied social commitment in the village and its surrounding areas, the NGO has begun construction of a house-cum-office on a huge plot of land donated by a benevolent villager, Khron Wahlang. The village has 100 households with an approximate population of 850.

The OLMA was founded in 2010 by voluntary alumni, well wishers and friends of St. Mary’s School and College, Shillong. The main objective of the NGO is to extend help and social service to the needy in both urban and rural areas and to organize animation programmes whenever and wherever possible.
