Guwahati: A Guwahati-based private news satellite channel, owned by Sharada chit fund group, today issued a closure notice to its employees with immediate effect, leaving at least 150 people jobless.

The concerned officials of the management of the channel declared about its closure from Tuesday, employees of the channel said.

The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA), a body of media personnel associated with electronic media in the state, has expressed serious concern at the sudden closure notice.

To discuss about the latest situation and decide necessary actions in this regard, the EMFA has also called for an emergency meeting on October 3.

The media sector in the state was jolted barely six months ago with the sudden closure of an English and a Bengali newspaper, published from Guwahati. (UNI)
