SHILLONG: As part of Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign Movement, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District and the Dorbar of the Syiem Hima Mylliem organized a cleaning drive at Iewduh Market here on Wednesday.
The cleaning drive saw active participation of all the shop owners and members of the Greater Iewduh Welfare Organization.
The cleaning drive was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Sanjay Goyal, Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Paiem Latho Manik Syiem, Myntri in charge Market Hima Mylliem, K Langstieh, Myntri in charge Law and Sanitation, M Kharlukhi, and members of the Dorbar Hima Mylliem.
Speaking on the occasion, Goyal appreciated the Dorbar of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem for their initiative in organizing the cleaning drive that aimed to create awareness among the people about the importance of cleanliness.
The DC also said that cleaning drive is a part of beautifying Shillong city which is effort taken up by the State Government and the Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign Movement launched by the State Government last year with an aim to involve everyone, especially the youth and school children, to take up environmental awareness in its practical form by adopting a particular lane or locality and organizing cleaning drives and awareness campaigns from time to time.
The cleaning drive was also attended by RPS Thakur, Zonal Director Nehru Yuva Kendra, Dr. Salam D. Singh, District Youth Coordination Nehru Yuva Kendra, Shillong, Paul Lokho, consultant to the Urban Affairs Department under the Asian Development Bank Project, Mary Victoria Marwein and E Blah, president and secretary, Greater Iewduh Welfare Organisation, respectively.
