SHILLONG: Casual employees of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) have threatened to resort to cease work from October 8 if the management fails to inform them about the new pay revision due to be effected from November.

The decision was taken following the adamant attitude of the management in responding to the presentation forwarded by the employees two months back stressing on the need to enhance their daily wages.

Based on the presentation, the daily pay paid now is Rs 140 for skilled and Rs 100 for unskilled employees. “With this meager amount, it becomes difficult for us to run our family,” the casua employees stated.

According to a release issued by the casual employees here on Thursday, the presentation which was sent two months ago has been stowed away in the shelf and no response had been received in this regard. “It seems the issue is going nowhere except mere talks as the management does not seem to be bothered about our problems,” they said.

The employees have also asked the MeECL management to respond to their demand in writing instead of some verbal assurance.
