UDP leader quits party

NONGSTOIN: Nassar Marwein, UDP leader from West Khasi Hills District, on Thursday announced his resignation from the party on personal grounds.

However, reliable sources have hinted that he would be joining the Congress party at a later date.

Marwein had contested the KHADC election from Nongstoin constituency in 2009 but was defeated by LG Nongsiej of the HSPDP. He again tried his luck in the Assembly election held in February this year from Nongstoin but lost to HSPDP supremo Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.

Sources have hinted that Marwein might be eyeing a Congress ticket to contest in the KHADC election scheduled next year.
