Chief Secy to head search panel

SHILLONG: The State government has constituted a search committee for appointment of the Chairman of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) under the State Chief Secretary WMS Pariat.

This was announced by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma in the State Assembly on Tuesday.

Other members of the committee are former Home Commissioner G P Wahlang and former Shillong College Principal Mrs MPR Lyngdoh.

Earlier, UDP, legislator Paul Lyngdoh expressed concern over the absence of a full time chairman in the MPSC.

“In the absence of a full time chairman interviews have been postponed which is a loss for the candidates,” Lyngdoh said.

It may be mentioned that Government has not appointed a full-fledged chairman of the MPSC to succeed Ashok Kumar Tigidi, who retired in December last.

Lyngdoh said that the delay in the appointment of a full-fledged chairman has badly affected the functioning of the Commission.

“I would like to assure the ief Secy to..

(Contd from P-1) House that the chairman would be appointed at the earliest,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr Sangma also denied the reports that Government was awaiting the retirement of the present Chief Secretary to appoint him as the MPSC chairman.
