SHILLONG: Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh informed that the construction of the proposed building of the Sohra Industrial Training Institute (ITI) would commence within this financial year.
Even though the project was sanctioned way back in April 2012, she said it could not take off since there were some minor glitches, like the need to re-design the building due to the introduction of new courses in the institute.
“The Centre, initially, was also reluctant to release the sanctioned amount which led to the delay. But the Centre finally agreed to release the requisite fund which has been earmarked for the project,” Lyngdoh said while replying to a question raised by Sohra legislator Titosstarwell Chyne during the Question Hour on Tuesday.
According to her, the project was earmarked under the Enhancing Skilled Development Infrastructure for North East and Sikkim.
While a total amount of Rs 2.56 crore has been earmarked for all the four ITIs in the State under the project, she informed that the total amount earmarked for Sohra ITI alone is Rs 1.77 crore.
Out of the total Rs 1.77 crore, Labour Minister informed that a total of Rs 1.23 crore has been kept aside for civil work while an amount of Rs 42 lakh has been earmarked for purchase of furniture and other equipment.
She stated that the new courses which are going to be imparted in the institute include the courses on masonry for building construction and courses for office assistants and computer operators.
Lyngdoh informed that the institute currently is offering courses relating to wiremen and plumbers.
