NE Centre for Technology Application and Reach

SHILLONG: North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), an autonomous society set-up under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India with its headquarters at Shillong, Meghalaya to assist the north eastern region, will be ensuring application of appropriate technologies for all round development.
Appropriate technologies will be used in the areas of biodiversity concerns, planning and monitoring, tele-schooling using cutting edge MESHNET solutions, employment generation, etc., through utilization of local products/resources and associated skill development.
NECTAR will also promote deployment of carefully selected technologies, emanating from the public funded research institutions under Government of India and State Government, in consultation with the respective state governments, after assessing their application potentials.
The Centre is sought to be a Solution Designer and a Partnership Institution, and it will focus on providing technology assistance to the State Governments in North Eastern Region, particularly assistance to State Government in Technology Assisted Decision Support Systems Focusing on Technology Reach Function.
NECTAR has embarked to join hands with self- help groups to make available new technologies in the field of bamboo processing.
Officers who visited the interior villages near Nongpoh in Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya were happy to see that local NGOs have organized women folk of these villages to produce bamboo sticks.
NECTAR will support these groups by giving the market price for their products and paying them promptly. Secondly, it will train and upgrade skills along with providing simple machines for higher value addition.
It also proposes to assist such NGOs who are already active in the area for development of the poor, marginalized and under privileged section of the society, especially women.
Such groups will be exposed to new technologies by NECTAR, assisted in production to manufacture quality products and establish complete supply chains.
The Centre shall undertake all activities which require technology and management to strengthen the economy of the north eastern region and create income and livelihoods.
The Centre will engage and participate with a diverse and dispersed range of project partners and collaborators.
