SHILLONG: Connectivity along the international border has always been a major concern with the BSF, who is guarding the international border with Bangladesh, having lodged complaints about the poor infrastructure in terms of connectivity.
A visit to border areas, be it Dalu, Dawki or any other place, reveals the sorry plight of connectivity particularly the roads which in most cases are found to be in a state of severe dilapidation.
However, to improve the road connectivity in the border areas, the State Government has now proposed to construct a ring road all along the border areas.
Speaking to The Shillong Times here recently, Border Areas Development Minister PrestoneTynsong said that the PWD is undertaking the project and a consultant has even started working on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project.
Initially, the State Government wants to connect Dawki with Shella through the Ring Road project, the paper works for which have already commenced.
The proposed ring road, once it becomes operational, is expected to provide significant help to the BSF to conduct border vigil on a better level.
Iforming that the ball was in the Centre’s court, Tynsong hoped that the Union Government would clear the project and sanction the funds at the earliest.
“We would immediately start the work without any delay when we get the sanction,” Tynsong added.
The estimated budget of the Ring Road project is around Rs 130 crore.
