JOWAI: Several organizations in Jaintia Hills have opposed the proposed move to delimit the constituencies under Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

The decision to oppose the delimitation proposal was taken in a meeting held here on Monday.

The leaders from Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF), the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), the Jaintia People’s Movement Forum (JPMF), the Hynniewtrep Achik National MovePMFment (HANM), the Hynniewtrep National People Federation (HNPF) and All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) attended the meeting.

JPMF president, Baitlang Pohsngap in a statement said, “The members of the JHADC particularly those in the ruling side decided to delimit JHADC constituencies without the consent of the people”. “NGOs in Jaintia Hills will meet the JHADC chief soon to demand immediate scraping of the proposed delimitation Bill”, Pohsngap said.
