Mock quake drill in city on Oct 19

SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Sanjay Goyal, has informed that a mock exercise on earthquake preparedness would be conducted at Jail Road and Police Bazar areas on October 19 from 9 am to 12 noon.

The exercise is being undertaken as part of the preparatory steps for the Megha Mock Exercise slated in February 2014, to be conducted by the State and District Management Authority in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority.

The mock exercise would be conducted in the residential areas of Jail Road, MTC office building, MUDA Shopping complex, Civil Hospital and Jail Road petrol pump. Local residents have been asked not to panic over the exercise.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority is set to conduct a capacity development programme in this connection at Yojana Bhawan from Oct 17-19.
