12 killed, 27 injured in Tripura

Agartala: Tripura has recorded 50 road mishaps in five days of Durga puja that left at least 12 persons dead and 53 injured including five minors, police report said here on Wednesday.
As many as four tribal girls were also raped and molested during puja in different locations of the state and three persons had been arrested on the charges of rapes.
A 23-year-old youth washed away in the River Gomuti on Tuesday during immersion of the idol of Durga in Udaipur under Gomuti district of South Tripura. A passenger bus skidded into a ditch in Khilpara area of Udaipur while negotiating a curb on National Highway 44 taking over a motor bike on Tuesday evening. A passenger died on the spot and 27 persons injured and now undergoing treatment in the hospital. Police said that the accident had occurred due to rash and over speeding by the bus driver and the driver is absconding.
Apart from this, 49 motorbike accidents were reported during Durga puja in different parts of the state and altogether 11 youths have died and 26 others were injured in the mishaps.
Reports also pointed out that two girls were raped allegedly by their boyfriends while one Class XI student was molested by a police officer and another Class VII student by her neighbour. Three persons including the policeman were arrested. (UNI)
