HILLONG: UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh on Sunday said that the efforts taken by the regional parties to form the North East Regional Political Front (NERPF) would help them to put up a united front to take on the Congress party in the upcoming 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
“The main objective behind formation of the Front is to minimize the political fight among the regional parties so as to consolidate their political base to take on the Congress party,” Lyngdoh informed over telephone from Guwahati.
He said that the regional parties would fight the upcoming Lok Sabha election as a single entity.
“The Front has also taken a strong stand against the vote bank ) politics of the Congress resulting in illegal immigration in the region. We would fight tool and nail to preserve the social, cultural and ethnic identity of the people of Meghalaya,” the UDP working president said.
He stated that the various regional parties in the North East would take up the cause of the region at the national level.
“The Front would meet at frequent intervals to come up with the Common Minimum Programmes (CMP) on issues confronting the region,” he said.
UDP president Dr Donkupar Roy has been elected as adviser of the NERPF while three UDP leaders – Bindo Mathew Lanong, BG Momin and Titosstarwell Chyne – have been nominated as members of the Front.
