Kidnapped girl rescued after 8 months

JOWAI: Nearly eight months after she was kidnapped from Ladrymbai, the four-years-old girl identified as Iammi Pakma was rescued by a police team of Ladrymbai on Thursday night only to know that the girl was in fact sold for Rs 25,000 to a woman by the kidnapper.

An NGO leader, Marshall Biam who caught the kidnapper helped police to rescue the minor girl from Namdong village in West Jaintia Hills.

Police sources said that the girl was sold for Rs 25,000 to a woman identified as Tipki Rynjah from Namdong village and currently staying at Khliehriat area.

Sources informed that five days ago, the President of HNPF, East Jaintia Hills, Marshall Biam apprehended the kidnapper identified as Iooki Saioo of Priang, near Iooksi village in West Jaintia Hills from Narwan village in East Jaintia Hills.

Pakma was kidnapped on April 2 and the kidnapper had demanded from the girl’s father, Skot Mukhim of Ladrymai Rs 30 lakh as ransom for her safe release.

Mukhim is a daily wage earner whose income varies from Rs 3000 to Rs 4000 per month.
