SHILLONG: The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) has clarified that it has dismantled a portion of the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture (SAIIC) following a court verdict.
Addressing newsmen here on Friday, YMCA president Grosswell Mylliemngap said that the Division Bench of the Meghalaya High Court had disposed of the land dispute litigation between the YMCA and SAIIC on October 21 last.
“In its final judgement, the court has clearly stated that the possession of YMCA and YWCA shall not be disturbed in respect to areas allotted to them,” Mylliemngap said.
He claimed that till now they have not received any stay order from the High Court asking them to desist from making a proper entrance to their own property by breaking the portion of the existing roadside wall.
The YMCA president said that the SAIIC was informed through a letter on October 29 before the portion of the wall was dismantled.
“The next day (October 30), the demolition work was carried out in the morning,” Mylliemngap said adding that the work was done after duly informing the Government authorities and in the presence of an ADM.
“The YMCA has not done anything wrong but has simply opened the proper approach to its property,” he said.
Earlier, SAIIC legal counsel said that the court had granted respite till November 10, allowing SAIIC to file a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court of India regarding the matter.
