SHILLONG: An Assam type house accommodating two staff members of TB Hospital, Jhalupara was completely gutted by fire on Saturday night.

According to police, the fire broke out due to short circuit following the fluctuation of light at around 9:45 pm while the occupants of the residential quarter were watching cricket on TV on Saturday.

Due to the late response of the people, the fire tenders did not reach in time which caused the delay in dousing the fire . The residential quarter shared by chowkidar of TB Hospital Padam Chetri and Amrita Sharma was gutted resulting in loss to property and goods.

Though two fire tenders reached the spot, nothing could be saved from the house. Police ruled out any foul play into the incident.

Chances of fire incidents shoot up on Diwali nights due to bursting of crackers, lighting of lamps etc.
