SHILLONG: KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngaiñ N Syiem has urged the State Government to initiate dialogue with the 13 pro-ILP pressure groups saying “The adamant attitude of Government (on holding talks with the agitating groups) is going to have serious ramifications.”

“I am afraid that many youths would be compelled to join the underground outfit since Government is not ready to listen to their grievances,” Syiem said while addressing a press conference here on Thursday. The KHADC CEM’s concern assumes significance in view of the recent statement of the KSU’s Mawlai Circle where it had stated that the HNLC publicity secretary had offered the NGO leaders to join the outfit.

The KSU Mawlai Circle even stated that its members were ready to join the outfit if the Government remains adamant to comply with the demand for implementing ILP in the State. “Who would take the responsibility if the youths decide to take up arms,” he said.

Syiem said that the Council had wanted to hold a consultation with the traditional heads of the 53 Hima and Syiemship to discuss the prevailing situation on November 11.

“But now we have decided to temporarily postpone this consultation exercise with. We have decided to first convene a meeting of all the 29 MDCs before holding this consultation exercise,” KHADC CEM said.
