SHILLONG: Parliamentary Secretary and Congress legislator Winnerson D Sangma received an extortion note via SMS from an organization called ‘HOLA Army’ demanding Rs 5 lakh from him.

The text messages sent in Hindi from the number 8415098083 wanted the legislator representing Salmanpara constituency of South West Garo Hills to pay the money by October 25 last.

Sangma, who is the Parliamentary Secretary in charge Home and Education lodged a complaint with the police on November 5.

As per the complaint, on October 16, the first text message from HOLA Army said that the legislator should pay Rs 5 lakh by October 25 with a threat of dire consequences if the amount was not paid.

The legislator again received another text message on October 21 from the same number seeking to know his response to their demand.

Police are investigating into the matter and from the illegible Hindi words used in the text messages it appears that those who demanded money might be petty criminals.
