SHILLONG: Nongkrem MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit’s attorney has shot off a legal notice to the chairman of Meghalaya Youth Federation (MYF) for his allegations in a section of the media relating to anomalies in an MLA scheme, claiming ‘sudden disappearance’ of the said scheme.

Advocate Sanjay D Swer, in a letter addressed to MYF chairman Johannes Lamare said that he (Lamare) must prove the disappearance of the scheme or else he will have to tender an unconditional apology by publishing it in a local daily within fifteen day.

The letter claimed that the allegation has been leveled on Ardent Basaiawmoit with the sole intention of tarnishing his image and lowering his prestige in the eyes of the people.

The advocate threatened legal action against Lamare if he failed to tender his apology within fifteen days.

In the wake of the recent controversy over the Laitkor Rngi internal road following an RTI filed by one Alaric Lyngdoh, the Meghalaya Youth Federation (MYF) chairman had sought a clarification from Nongkrem legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit on the detail of the Centrally-sponsored scheme.

Lamare has asserted that three days before the Assembly elections in the State, Basaiawmoit had informed a public gathering during an election campaign held at Madan Kynton-U-Mon, Nongkrem that the sanctioned amount for the construction of the said road is over Rs 1 crore.

However, no progress has been made in implementation of the scheme, prompting the MLA to clarify that the scheme had lapsed due to delay in its implementation.
