NST effect on Nongkrem Dance

SHILLONG: The Dorbar Shnong Mawiong, Diengpasoh, under the Khyrim Syiemship has decided to boycott the Pomblang Syiem or Nongkrem Dance, an annual festival of the Hima Khyrim to be held at Smit on Thursday, protesting the decision of the Hima to sell its land to the State Government for the New Shillong Township (NST) project.

R Kharumnuid, Rangbah Shnong of Mawiong, Diengpasoh, stated that the decision of the Hima to remain a ‘silent spectator’ at a time when the State Government is all out to take away the Raid land has compelled the Dorbar to take this decision of boycotting the all-important Festival.

“The negligence and ignorance of the Hima and its chieftain towards the pleas and cries of the residents of Mawiong village having 150 households is unexpected and uncalled for,” Kharumnuid said.

The Rangbah Shnong, further, informed that the Dorbar had, on several occasions approached the Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Paiem Balajied Sing Syiem, seeking his intervention, but the chieftain had no regard for the grievances of the people.

“This is why we have decided to boycott the Nongkrem Dance,” the Kharumnuid stated.
