Project to clean Umshing water source

SHILLONG: As part of the efforts to maintain cleanliness of the water source located at Umshing Umsohlang, Mawlai MLA and MDC Embhah Syiemlieh inspected the water source on Wednesday with a purpose to look into the shifting of the drain carrying filthy water from flowing to the clean stream.

Accompanied by chairman of the Mawlai Town Dorbar, SD Khongwir, Syiemlieh’s inspection came after people of various parts of Mawlai who get their water supply from that source, have complained of the unfit condition of drinking water.

In this connection, the local MLA urged the PHE department to take up this matter seriously to ensure the supply of safe and clean drinking water.

Meanwhile, SE of the PHE department, H S Nongkynrih informed that the total estimate of the project comes to around Rs 55 lakh and the target to complete the same is before Christmas and if not, the project will be completed within three months.

“This is the final stage of the inspection, and tenders have already been called in this regard,” Nongkynrih said.
