Integrated Check Post inaugurated in Tripura
Agartala: Bangladesh government would not allow Indian insurgent groups to use its soil for launching anti-Indian activities, said Bangladesh Home Minister Dr. MK Alamgir.
Dr. Alamgir, who was speaking to media after inauguration of Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Akhaura by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, reiterated the Bangladesh government would no provide shelter to Indian criminals in its territory.
“There has been joint effort to maintain peace in Bangladesh. If any Indian establishment provides us specific inputs on the presence of insurgent hideouts in Bangladesh soil, we will check and take necessary steps”, he said.
Only few days back, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had claimed there are still seven to eight NLFT camps in Bangladesh.
On being asked about the push-back of ULFA leader Anup Chetia, Dr. Alamgir said, “We have inked historic Extradition Treaty with Indian government to exchange criminals of both sides. Chetia’s prison term has already got completed. But, he approached the Supreme Court pleading to stay in Bangladesh. Under this circumstance, the apex court is the competent authority to say the final word on the fate of elusive Indian fugitive”.
Earlier, Union Minister Shinde dedicated the Akhura ICP in presence of his Bangladesh counterpart who led a 36-member delegation and Tripura’s Industries and Commerce Minister Jitendra Chowdhury.
While speaking on the occasion, Shinde said Tripura would become gateway of South-East Asian nations because of its strategic location.
“The ICP, which is second in the country, will certainly enhance the movement of goods, people and vehicles. Both counties will be benefitted from the ICP”, he said.
Recalling the bond between India and Bangladesh, Shine said, “India is committed to extend full support to the development of Bangladesh as both want to grow together”.
Shinde further said the Centre would try to establish more border haats along Tripura’s border with Bangladesh to boost the border trade at locale level.
Dr. Alamgir, in his brief speech, hoped that this ICP would increase the bilateral trade between two sides and exporters-importers would be beneficial after coming up the ICP.
