‘EKH administration has sufficient manpower’

SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills administration has claimed that it has sufficient resources to tackle the prevailing law and order situation.

Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Thursday, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said the law and order situation in the district and the capital city is under control and the district police have sufficient manpower to maintain the law and order situation.

The capital city of Shillong has witnessed several violent incidents including burning of a person inside his shop at Bishnupur and hurling of petrol bombs in some houses at Lumdiengjri in last one week.

The administration has credible evidences against those who have been arrested for their involvement in several arson cases, he said adding that the district administration is not going for any random arrest.

It may be mentioned that several members of the pro-ILP pressure groups have been arrested in the past two months for their involvement in various arson cases.

“We are building up cases and perpetrators will not be spared,” he said while adding that the district administration would also go hard against any one who would take advantage of the situation.

Earlier, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma had asserted that the district administration has been tasked to deal with the situation even as he had asked state police to be more proactive while dealing with the cases of violence.
