Railway tracks removed near Guwahati

Guwahati: A major train tragedy was averted in Assam last night after the timely detection of removed railway tracks near Saraighat bridge over the Brahmpautra in Guwahati. Two persons involved in the crime were also apprehended from the spot.

Police sources said today that two persons were spotted by local removing angles from the railway tracks late Saturday evening. The locals alerted the police patrol party and the two thieves were nabbed immediately.

Around 26 angles were removed by the duo, which would have led to devastating accident.

The Howrah-Guwahati Saraighat Express was scheduled to pass through the tracks after some time and timely intervention saved the train from a major mishap.
