Memo for devp of Shnongpdeng village

JOWAI: The Dorbar Shnong of Shnongpdeng village, a tourist destination under Amlarem Sub-Division in West Jaintia Hills District, has demanded various development projects in the village. In this regard a memorandum was submitted to local legislator and Parliamentary Secretary Stephanson Mukhim on Monday.

“Shnongpdeng, which is one of the cleanest villages in Jaintia Hills, has attracted many visitors from other states and abroad. Therefore, we feel that the government should provides us funds for better development of the village,” the memorandum signed by the headman and the village secretary stated.

“We request you to kindly help us get various development schemes for our village so that tourists who visit this place can feel more comfortable,” the headman, Bnai Syngkren, said while reading out the memorandum.

The village Dorbar has demanded construction of public toilets, proper water supply and proper roads, beside upgradation of an UP school to a Secondary level one and to repair electrical wires and poles in the village.

“We are happy that the MLA has constructed one public toilet in the village, but this is not enough; we need more public toilets in the village,” stated the Dorbar Shnong.

According to the Dorbar Shnong, the village is facing acute water problem. There is no permanent source or water and during winter seasons people are suffering from water scarcity.

The Dorbar Shnong has also urged the MLA to ask the PWD for improvement of the dilapidated road condition in the village. The only road that connects the village with National Highway NH-44 (40E) is in a bad shape.

It may be mentioned that Shnongpdeng village, located in War Jaintia has, over the years, attracted many people from outside and even from abroad. Cleanliness of the village and the beautiful Umngot riverside are the main reasons that attract tourists to the village which also boasts of special hospitality offered by the villagers to every visitor.
