SHILLONG: The KHADC will convene a special session on Saturday to deliberate on the report of the Delimitation Committee.

“We are convening the special session of the Council as 20 MDCs have sought for the same,” KHADC CEM Pynshngain N Syiem informed here on Thursday.

Stating that the Executive Committee (EC) was not competent to take a final call on the report of the committee, Syiem said only the House can decide whether to reject or accept the report.

The EC could not meet on Thursday as most of the Executive Members were not in station. “The EC would meet on Friday to discuss the report,” Syiem said.

Meanwhile, sources have indicated that majority of the MDCs are in favour of the upcoming election being held as per the proposed delimited constituencies.

“The decision to convene a special session is more or less a formality,” sources said.

As per the proposed delimitation bill, the Council would create Umsning constituency by deleting Laitkroh constituency.

With the deletion of Laitkroh, the areas falling under the constituency have been attached to various MDC constituencies like Mylliem, Langkyrdem and Sohra.

The delimitation committee had submitted the report to the EC on December 9.
