SHILLONG: The North Eastern Hill University- Hostellers’ Welfare Committee (NEHU-HWC) will write a letter of no-confidence to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Chairman and Secretary of UGC, the Vice Chancellor and the Rector of the University if the Dean of Students’ Welfare, Prof SN Sharan and Provost, Prof DK Nayak are not removed from their respective posts.
The students have also threatened to close down the office of both Sharan and Nayak if the university fails to comply with their demands.
“We demand the immediate removal of the two professors in view of their inefficiency. We are compelled to make this fresh demand as the authorities failed to listen to the students’ and research scholars’ demand to remove the two professors within December 11,” NEHU-HWC vice chairman Atanu Banerjee told pressmen here on Friday.
According to him, the students have been demanding the removal of Sharan and Nayak after both allegedly failed to address the various grievances of the students.
Banerjee also said that the students would ‘de-recognize’ the Dean and Provost if the authority concerned fails to pay heed to their demand.
Meanwhile, NEHU-HWC chairman, Rusievan Shangpliang said that both the officials failed to convene the general review meeting between the administration and the students of the hostels as promised in the last general meeting held on August 23.
Shangpliang also alleged that the Dean and Provost completely neglected the recurring fellowship and scholarship problems faced by the students besides other grievances.
Over 200 research scholars were affected due to delay in releasing their fellowship and the Dean’s failure to take up their cases with the higher authority have agitated the students.
It was also informed that recently the research scholars were forced to cease work and stage protest for two days to demand action.
