Panaji: Twelve percent of the school students in Goa suffer from psychological problems with “inferiority complex” being a major issue, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Saturday.
Parrikar made the statement at a function in the state capital and cited data from a report compiled after student assessments were made by the newly appointed campus counselling centres in government and state-aided schools.
“I cannot reveal much from the report because it is of a sensitive nature. But nearly 12 percent of the school students suffer from psychological hindrances,” Parrikar said, underlining “inferiority complex” as one of the major findings of the report.
The report was compiled by campus counselling centres set up in state-aided and government schools through a cabinet decision some years ago after a Class XII student committed suicide over her poor performance in a board examination.
Parrikar said the state government would appoint child psychiatrists to analyse patterns of the psychology of children in the state with a view to addressing whatever afflicts the young. (IANS)
