FIR lodged into mentally challenged girl’s rape

SHILLONG: An FIR was filed by an NGO in Garo Hills against the rape of a mentally challenged girl during the first day of Baghmara Winter Festival on December 11 last.
After the incident, the Maharis entered into a compromise with the victim’s relatives and even the accused, one Rikrak N Sangma, confessed in the compromise letter that he had committed the crime.
According to CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing, annoyed over the matter, the NGO led by Jaynie Sangma filed the FIR on Thursday.
Kharshiing also condemned the Maharis for hushing up a crime which should have been reported to the police.
