NEW DELHI: Calling it a “paradox”, BJP on Saturday took a dig at Congress for working on an alliance with RJD after supporting Aam Admi Party which won on anti-corruption plank in Delhi, but the ruling party hit back reminding BJP of its association with tainted leaders like BS Yeddyurappa.
“What a paradox – Congress supports Kejriwal in Delhi and Lalu in Patna,” leader of opposition Arun Jaitley tweeted on Thursday in a veiled attack on Congress over the issue of corruption.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad was released on bail early this week, two-and-a-half months after he was convicted in a fodder scam case.
Reacting sharply to it, AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmed on Saturday reminded the BJP of its efforts to bring back former Karanataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, who had to earlier to resign from the CM post in the wake of corruption charges.
Ahmed also reminded BJP that it also had association with Chautala family as the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) had been a member of a NDA.
INLD chief Om Prakash Chautla and his son Ajay Chautala were jailed in recruitment scam case.
“Jaitley Ji is sarcastic on the prospects of Congress & RJD alliance but forgets BJP’s efforts to bring BS Yeddyurappa in BJP and Chautalas in NDA,” Ahmed tweeted.
An alliance among Congress, RJD and Ram Vilas Paswan’s LJP appears on the cards in Bihar, a crucial North Indian state, with the third largest population, carrying several seats along with it.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who arrived in the national capital on Friday, has stressed that his party was keen on a tie-up with Congress.
A meeting with Prasad and top Congress leadership is likely soon.
Congress has already discussed the issue with its leaders in-charge of Bihar affairs and an overwhelming section in the party is in favour of an alliance with RJD. (PTI)
