Two killed in violent brawls

IMPHAL: Two people died in two separate violent brawls in Thoubal and Imphal West districts of Manipur on the night of Christmas Eve.
At Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang Leikai of Imphal West, Laishram Madhumangol, 52, was beaten to death by a group of drunken men after a scuffle ensued around 7:30 pm.
The incident happened when the victim along with his wife and son returned home after buying things from Mayang Imphal bazaar. The family said four local persons were making a lot of noise as they were having drink at a tea stall located near the victim’s house. Madhumangol tried to reason with them when the four started beating him as well as his wife and son. He was seriously injured in the incident. The victim later succumbed at Mayang Imphal PHC.
Two accused in the case have been arrested by the police while the other two are absconding. The arrested accused have been identified as Ningthoujam Abungcha, 24, and Ningthoujam Kipgen, 24, both residents of Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang Leikai. One out of the two accused, who are still at large, has been identified as Sapam Naoba, 24, also hailing from Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang Leikai, the identity of the fourth is yet to be established, police said.
Police said an irate mob dismantled the houses of the accused over the fatal incident just after midday Wednesday.
Separately, a 34-year-old man was clubbed to death by his own elder brother after the victim beaten up their 70-year-old father at Yairipok Lourembam Leikai in Thoubal district on December 24 around 10:30 pm. (NNN)
