SHILLONG: With lukewarm response from the Government towards addressing various corruption issues, several anti-graft bodies have decided to change their strategy to force Government to have transparent and accountable administration.
The Chairman of Mait Shaphrang Movement, Michael Syiem said that the Chief Minister may depend on the numbers he has currently not to give any heed to the voices of dissent especially those from the pressure groups, but “we will change our strategy so that there is a semblance of accountability”.
Syiem, who is also part of Campaign for an Independent Lokayukta, however, did not indicate the nature of strategy which he and others will follow.
Though those  who spearhead the Campaign for an Independent Lokayukta were insisting for a strong law to check corruption, the Congress led MUA  government  enacted a  different law with many loopholes.
Moreover, the Government has spared the higher ups and punished others in the education scam.
“The political situation is changing.  With the change of administration in Delhi, there are winds of positive changes in various parts of the country and the respective Government s should read the signs”, Syiem said.
According to Syiem, if Meghalaya does not take advantage of the changes, the state will be missing the fruits of clean governance.
“We will meet next week to chalk out a strategy to ensure that there is corruption free governance and proper development”, said Syiem who is also part of the Meghalaya Right to Information Movement.
He also indicated that there can be a mass movement in Meghalaya in the New Year starting from the grass root as  the majority of the people of the state are disillusioned over the present state of affairs.
According to Syiem, the Chief  Minister  has been  directed by  the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi during the meeting of the chief ministers  to implement a strong Lokayukta in line with  Lokpal Bill .
Moreover, checking price  hike  and ensuring supply of PDS are other directives.
