Draft peace pact anniversary today

SHILLONG: With a year into the draft peace pact, the ANVC has asked both the State and Central governments to speed up signing of the final agreement.
It was on January 5 last that with much euphoria that the leaders of  ANVC and ANVC (B) entered into the draft peace pact with both the State government and the Centre.
The ANVC publicity secretary Arist Sangma said on Saturday that with the anniversary of the draft peace pact falling  on January 5, “we appeal both the State and the Centre to sign the final settlement at the  earliest”.
“It’s almost one year after signing the draft peace pact. We request the government to speed up the process so that there is lasting peace in Garo Hills  “, Sangma said .
He also indicated that after their top leaders met the central officials in Delhi in December last to discuss the matter, nothing much was done by both the Centre and the State.      The final agreement is  taking  more time and if the matter is solved early, this will bring some changes in Garo Hills which may prevent mushrooming of splinter groups too, Sangma said.
