Agartala: Agartala Cycle Club (ACC), a voluntary organisation to promote non-motorised and pollution free-health mode of transportation has expressed serious concern over growing motorised vehicles in the small city.
Talking to media on Saturday ACC Executive Dr Jayanta Roy, Associate Professor of Agartala Govt Medical College demanded immediate regulation on motor vehicle movement in the city.
They alleged after 2000 hrs and early morning the city dwellers become helpless in movement within a few kilometres of distance unless they are having personal or chartered mode of transportation because of absence of assured and dedicated public transport.
The right of the cyclists and pedestrians have been snatching away by the illegal occupants on the footpath; they alleged adding urgently implement the parking policy drafted by ACC.
To ensure better traffic management and passenger friendly services, ensure dedicated clean and comfortable bus service from 6am to 10pm with every 10 minutes interval covering all major areas of Agartala city and periphery and set up cluster for cycle rickshaw and battery/electric rickshaw movement in all feeder roads and lanes of the city, ACC added.
ACC leaders however, expressed displeasure over misuse and personal use of govt vehicles by a section officials and illegal on street parking of red-beckon vehicles causing obstruction of normal traffic in major city roads.
“No govt norm allowed govt officials to use vehicle for going for lunch every day and rampant use of official vehicles of personal fleets but unfortunately the government is wilfully ignoring it and we demand immediately stop the culture,” reiterated Dr Roy. (UNI)
