Action sought against errant cops

TURA: The Western Chandmari Development Committee (WCDC) has demanded that strong action be taken against the erring police personnel who were involved in the molestation of a 12-year-old girl from TB Hospital Staff Quarter, Tura, while she was returning home with her uncle after closing shop at Jangga near Wadanang in Tura, at around 11 pm on the night of December 28.
Reacting to the shameful crime committed by those who were supposedly keepers of the law the WCDC has condemned the whole incident and demanded that the copy of the medical examination reports conducted on December 28 and January 2 be furnished; that the guilty policemen be arrested and their services terminated; that compensation of Rs 1 lakh be extended to the affected family; that the victim be given rehabilitation and that daily visits by senior officers be made to Police Beat Houses to ensure that junior ground-level officers are not drunk while on duty in uniform.
According to the FIR, the minor girl and her uncle were returning from their shop in Janga area of Wadanang at around 11 pm on December 28 when their auto rickshaw was stopped by the three police officials who were in a white police gypsy.
After accusing the uncle of being a militant they assaulted him and allegedly molested the niece inside the auto rickshaw.
Later, they were taken to Chandmari police beat house and reportedly made to sign some papers.
