KHADC, JHADC to go to polls on Feb 24

Counting of votes: Feb 27
Publication of electoral rolls: Feb 4
Filing of nominations: Feb 5 onwards
Last date for filing of nominations: Feb 10
Last date for withdrawal of nominations: Feb 12

SHILLONG: Elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) will be held on February 24 while counting of votes will take place on February 27.

29 members each will be elected to both the KHADC and the JHADC, while one member each will be nominated to complete the 30-member Houses.

Elections to the GHADC will be announced later as the State Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod for a six-month extension of the GHADC term, pending the final peace pact with the ANVC.

The Cabinet had also extended the tenure of the KHADC and JHADC for another 15 days for the smooth conduct of the elections.

An official source on Thursday informed that the draft electoral rolls will be published on January 10 while January 25 has been fixed for filing claims and objections. The final electoral rolls will be published on February 4.

Filing of nominations will start from February 5 while the last day for receiving nomination papers has been set as February 10. Withdrawal of nomination papers can be done till February 12.

The respective Deputy Commissioners will act as the Returning Officers for conduct of the polls.
