SHILLONG: Rajya Sabha member Wansuk Syiem is planning to seek re-election after the expiry of her term, but at the same time left it to Congress leaders to take the final call.

“I have no comment to make on the re-election and it is up to the Congress leaders to decide on the matter,” Syiem said over phone from Delhi on Tuesday.

Her term will end on April 12.

The Election Commission on Monday announced biennial poll schedule for 55 Rajya Sabha seats from 16 States including Meghalaya. The poll will be held on February 7 and the notification will be issued on January 21.

The lone Meghalaya seat fell vacant when incumbent Thomas Sangma of NPP resigned to contest the Assembly elections last year.

Syiem, a former member of the National Commission for Women, made it to the Upper House unopposed and became the first woman from Meghalaya to be elected member of the Rajya Sabha.
