Police rescue survivor from gorge

SHILLONG: The police officers and constables of Umiam police Station from Ri Bhoi police on Wednesday night saved the life of a man whose Sumo vehicle fell down in a 100 metre gorge just before Umiam.

Incidentally, the Police was not aware about the accident but later when police received a distress call at 1 pm, the duty officer from Umiam PS was alerted, and a party went to the spot but the person could not be located.

After some time, the police team went again to the spot and shouted if any one was there in the gorge and luckily, the victim identified as Tek Bahadur Thapa responded and later Fire and Emergency Service was contacted to get a long rope and he was finally rescued at 3 pm following which, he was taken to hospital for post trauma care.
