Bining ends third amongst Indians at Mumbai Marathon

SHILLONG: Biningstar Lyngkhoi missed finishing as the top Indian male at the Mumbai Marathon on Sunday by just 32 seconds with a time of 2:24:40.

Karan Singh clocked 2:24:08, followed by Rashpal Singh’s 2:24:38.

Lyngkhoi was the top Indian finisher last year.

Lalita Babar completed a hat-trick of wins among the Indian women and set a new course record of 2:50:31, ahead of Vijay Mala Patil (2:59:58) and Jyoti Gawate (3:02:59).

Meanwhile, Evans Ruto led a clean sweep by Kenya in the men’s race but missed out narrowly in creating a new course record, while pre-race favourite Dinknesh Mekash clinched the women’s crown easily.

Ruto clocked 2:09:33 to miss the course record, set last year by his compatriot Jackson Kiprop, by a second. Lawrence Kimaiyo came second, with Philemon Baaru third.

Mekash crossed the finish line in 2:28:08, with Gladys Kipsoi second and Bizunesh Urgesa third. (with agency inputs)
