Guwahati: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Monday launched a scathing attack at the Congress, alleging that the party was protecting some 4 crore illegal migrants in the country, putting at stake the country’s integrity, unity and security.
‘There are some 3 to 4 crore illegal migrants who have entered India unlawfully and are staying here. Assam has been the medium of entry for these illegal migrants and the Congress is protecting them. The Congress has put at stake the country’s unity, integrity and security. Even one illegal migrant could pose a threat to the nation,’ Ramdev, who arrived here on Monday to attend a programme, said addressing a press conference.
‘The Congress is left with no alternative. The party has lost its credibility,’ the Yoga guru said, reaffirming his support for BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
He said the biggest challenges posing Assam has been insecurity, poverty and unemployment.
‘Had the central funds been used properly, such problems would not have surfaced. Rampant corruption has led to such problems,’ he said.
Claiming that the Congress has been following a ‘divide and rule’ policy ever since Independence, Ramdev appealed for a non-Congress government at the Centre and in Assam.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, the Yoga Guru said the Congress scion was just playing to the gallery with his speeches.
‘Three days back, Rahul Gandhi told the Prime Minister that nine subsidized cylinders are not enough, you have to make it 12. Are the people beggars? I want to ask, why a consumer has to pay Rs 1200 for a cylinder when the actual price in Rs 400?’ he questioned.
‘The actual price of petrol is Rs 40, but we are paying Rs 80. Similarly, the actual price of diesel is Rs 35, and we have to pay Rs 60… Why? People are not getting commodities at their actual price. In a country where rulers are businessmen, the people ought to be beggars,’ he said.
The Yoga Guru also reiterated his proposal to replace all taxes with a single tax on banking transactions, a proposal which, he said, was rejected by the Prime Minister.
Ramdev has proposed a single Banking Transaction Tax (BTT) to replace all direct and indirect taxes presently collected in the country. (UNI)
