Training programme on legal rights for women

JOWAI: The Office of the District Convergence and Facilitation Centre (DCFC), Jowai, organised a one-day training programme on ‘Legal Right for Women’ at Tpep Pale Hall, Jowai, here on Wednesday.
The training programme was inaugurated by West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar.
State Coordinator, District Convergence and Facilitation Centre, Daffily Marbaniang, in her introductory speech briefed about the function, aims and objectives of the State Resource Centre for Women and the District Convergence Facilitation Centre.
She informed that the State Resource Centre for Women is centrally funded by the National Mission for Empowerment of Women (NMEW), Government of India. The National Mission for Empowerment of Women was launched on March 8, 2010 with a mission to empower women, who constitute 48 per cent of the population of the country, both socially and economically so that they could become an integral part of the nation building process.
“The aim of the mission is to promote all round empowerment of women including their physical, mental, social, economic and political development,” Marbaniang informed.
She informed that the State Mission Authority (SMA) has been set up at the State-level under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister with the Ministers of the participating departments as members which became operational in Meghalaya on August 31, 2012 and in the district-level with the Deputy Commissioner as the Chairman.
The District Convergence and Facilitation Centre in Jaintia Hills has been in operation since August, 2013.
She also mentioned that the District Convergence and Facilitation Centres (DCFC) will work with women centres at the Block and Village level to analysis the social, economic and political factors that hinder women empowerment and will serve as a single window for information on Government programmes to the public.
Assistant Coordinator, DCFC, Hallyeynia Sahkhar, gave a brief overview of the training. She said that the purpose of the training is to help women know their rights. She also informed that the DCFC has been set up at Laskein Block while VCFCs are operational at Thangthring, Thadmuthlong, Kyndong Tuber, Sahsniang A&B, Raliang, Lakadong, Hynniawkmai, Lakadong, Mooshrot and Khonshnong.
